It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Bashaw. A small, vibrant town of approximately 900 residents and growing. We are proud of our efforts and achievements to sustain a rich a prosperous unified community.


They say home is where the heart is and that especially depicts Bashaw. Whether originally from the area or not, newcomers are amazed at how once settled in it feels like they have lived here all of their lives.

Nestled in the valley near the shores of Buffalo and Red Deer Lakes at the crossroads of Highway 21 and 53, we are centrally located in Prairie Parkland Country. Bashaw is within daily commuting distance to Camrose, Ponoka, Stettler and Lacombe and less than an hour drive to Red Deer.

Primarily a farming community, the area around Bashaw is known for productive croplands and a diverse livestock industry. Our full service community provides all the basics required to maintain a very clean, secure, comfortable lifestyle in today's fast paced world.

Quality of life is sought after and easily obtained in our safe and compassionate community. And we have an abundance of water fed by deep well systems.

Bashaw offers excellent shopping opportunities, a health care centre, local physician, senior housing facilities, seniors lodge, day care centre, RCMP detachment, K-12 School, youth centre, library, ball diamonds, arena/curling rink, agricultural facilities and rodeo grounds. A scenic countryside with lakes, trees and rolling hills make Bashaw and area an ideal location for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, boating or just a peaceful drive in the country.

There are excellent accommodations within the Town of Bashaw as well as bed and breakfast facilities and private or provincial campgrounds within the near vicinity. For golfing enthusiasts who enjoy a challenge, two superb golf courses are located just minutes north and south of Bashaw.

Bashaw is truly a "community" as it is strategically situated where the four counties of Camrose, Ponoka, Stettler and Lacombe converge. This uniqueness in location affords a volunteerism spirit second to none. Numerous spring and summer events are hosted in Bashaw annually because of this giving and participative nature.

Area Overview

The Town of Bashaw may be considered a "small" town in the scope of communities in Alberta [population approximately 900) however, the community's volunteers, businesses and organizations have made this town anything but small.

Agriculture is a major industry in the surrounding area. Farmers produce some of the finest products in grain, beef, and dairy cattle. Bashaw serves as one of the few areas in Alberta to offer the advanced technology of producing and exporting frozen embryos to foreign countries.

In 1974, Bashaw formed the District Agricultural Society which has become known in the industry for its innovative approach to serving the community and for industry with a strong emphasis on youth and family.  More statistics on Bashaw and what it has to offer. 

Climate

The climate in Bashaw ranges from warm summer months to snow in the winter. Spring usually arrives in mid April and the temperature continues to rise until fall. Although the last few years have been milder, Bashaw generally has a fair amount of snowfall and cool temperatures in the winter.

Recreation

The town boasts 2, 9-hole golf courses, Country 9 which is north and Bashaw Golf and Country Club www.bashawgolf.com which is south of town, fitness center, ice arena, curling rink, tot lot playground, ball diamonds (which are for rent by contacting 780-372-3911), community park, centennial nature trail, heritage walking path and a tennis court. There are 5 campgrounds nearby: Johnson's Beach, Pelican Point, Tillicum Beach, Town of Bashaw and Willow Grove.

Medical Centre, Ambulance, Fire Department, RCMP Detachment, Recreational Facilities and a busy Business Centre are just some of the strengths of our community. Proud to have as members representatives of all business sectors, with a seat on the Community Development Council and a Voice at Town Council.

Bashaw Youth Centre

Operating days are Monday to Friday and depending on the season, times will vary. You can find a number of activities in the youth centre such as air hockey, board games, books, exercise equipment, arts & crafts centre, Karaoke, dress-up clothes, TV & VCR and a variety of programs.

The Youth Centre has an open door policy to all youth ages 4 & up (supervision under age 4)

Location

Bashaw is located in the County of Camrose #22, on connecting highways #21 and #53. It is situated 90 km [56 miles] northeast of Red Deer; and 145 km [90 miles] southeast of Edmonton.

Bashaw is located approximately 40 minutes from Camrose, Stettler, Ponoka and Lacombe. This makes it a very attractive place to live and commute back and forth to work & housing is very affordable.
